Idemia Public Security has been ranked first in recent NIST fingerprint evaluations, excelling in the Evaluation of Latent Fingerprint Technologies (ELFT) and other key benchmarks. The results indicate improvements in accuracy that are crucial for forensic investigations and public safety. Idemia’s leadership in the field reinforces its commitment to advancing biometric solutions for law enforcement.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has released new fingerprint evaluation benchmarks, revealing that Idemia Public Security has secured the top position. The release indicates that Idemia ranks number one in all fingerprint benchmarks, particularly excelling in the Evaluation of Latent Fingerprint Technologies (ELFT).
The ELFT assesses the accuracy of latent fingerprint identification, showcasing advancements in forensic investigation and helping law enforcement solve cases more efficiently. Besides ELFT, Idemia also ranks first in evaluations for Proprietary Fingerprint Template (PFT), Minutiae Interoperability Exchange (MINEX), Slap Fingerprint Segmentation (SlapSeg), and the NIST Mobile Fingerprinting Innovation Technology Challenge (mFIT).
The PFT evaluations measure the accuracy of fingerprint matchers to test core algorithmic capabilities for one-to-one fingerprint verification. Meanwhile, MINEX evaluates the performance of fingerprint matching software on interoperable minutiae-based templates. SlapSeg focuses on the accuracy of algorithms for segmenting slap fingerprint images, while mFIT fosters advancements in mobile fingerprint capture technologies with prototype applications.
Vincent Bouatou, CTO of Idemia Public Security, stated that “at a time when protecting communities is paramount… we are proud to deliver the highest level of performance and empower public safety officials and security agencies with technology that enhances investigations.” NIST’s latest fingerprint rankings also follow Idemia’s top rankings in fairness for Facial Recognition Technology and Age Evaluation Verification in November 2024.
Idemia Public Security’s top ranking in the latest NIST fingerprint evaluations underscores its leadership in biometric technology. Key evaluations such as ELFT, PFT, MINEX, SlapSeg, and mFIT highlight its dedication to improving the accuracy of fingerprint identification, thereby enhancing law enforcement capabilities. By providing advanced technology, Idemia aims to support public safety and investigations effectively.
