Tech5 Patents Innovative Decentralized Biometric Digital Identity System

Tech5 has patented a decentralized digital ID system that enables secure identity verification without centralized databases. The system supports biometric data, selective disclosure, and integrates blockchain technology, promoting inclusivity and financial access. Tech5 is deploying this system in countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, and Colombia.

Tech5 has received patent protection for its innovative decentralized biometric digital identity system. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office approved the patent for a “System and Method for Decentralized Digital Identity Verification,” which describes the issuance and verification of digital IDs without relying on centralized databases or internet connectivity. The system allows for selective disclosure, enabling users to choose what personal information to share.

This patented technology utilizes Verifiable Credentials or 2D machine-readable codes, offering secure identity verification through a variety of biometric modalities alongside blockchain integration. The digital IDs incorporate a cryptographic code that embeds necessary data, allowing users to manage and protect their information effectively. The system generates stable bio-hashes from live biometric samples ensuring security and authenticity.

Tech5 emphasizes its alignment with self-sovereign identity (SSI) principles, aiming to enhance universal and financial inclusion. The company asserts that this new method promotes access to digital payment ecosystems, facilitating financial services. Rahul Parthe, Co-founder and CTO, stated, “We continue to innovate in the field of decentralized identity because we believe in building inclusive infrastructure that empowers every individual to participate in the digital ecosystem.”

Moreover, Tech5 is deploying its decentralized digital public infrastructure (DPI) in various nations across Africa and Latin America, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, and Colombia. The new system represents a significant step toward creating trustworthy digital identities accessible to all individuals, which further solidifies the foundation of trust in digital ecosystems.

Tech5’s patented decentralized biometric digital ID system presents a progressive solution for digital identity verification. With emphasis on security, privacy, and inclusion, this technology aids in establishing self-sovereign identities while supporting various financial ecosystems. As Tech5 implements these advancements in multiple regions, it aims to foster a more accessible digital infrastructure for all individuals.
