Vietnam’s Ministry of Construction is introducing biometric technology and the VNeID platform at Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai airports. The deployment timelines vary, with Tan Son Nhat scheduled for April-June and Noi Bai for March-September. The initiative includes additional airports and necessitates chip-based ID cards and personal data sharing for effective verification.
The Ministry of Construction in Vietnam is rolling out plans for biometric technology and the VNeID digital identity platform across major international airports, including Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai. Deployment at Tan Son Nhat is scheduled for April-June, coinciding with the launch of Terminal 3. In contrast, Noi Bai’s implementation is expected from March to September.
Additionally, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) is investing in biometric verification systems at four further airports: Phu Bai, Cat Bi, Dien Bien, and Long Thanh. As part of the verification, travelers must have a chip-based ID card, provide a passenger name record (PNR) booking code, and consent to facial recognition and data sharing.
The biometric verification will take place at three critical checkpoints: check-in counters where chip-based ID card readers and facial recognition sensors are installed, a security checkpoint featuring an automated boarding area access gate (ABAAG), and a self-boarding gate with biometric authentication. This process will also adhere strictly to the legal requirements for personal data protection, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.
The Ministry of Construction’s initiative aims to enhance the efficiency and security of passenger processing through biometric technology at key international airports in Vietnam. The planned implementation at various phases across multiple airports emphasizes the government’s commitment to integrating technological advancements into public transportation. With stringent adherence to personal data protection laws, the biometric system seeks to streamline travel while safeguarding sensitive information.
