This store utilizes AI-driven self-service kiosks to assess the age of customers purchasing restricted products like alcohol. The biometric technology is supplied by Diebold Nixdorf, utilizing facial recognition capabilities to estimate age efficiently.

Customers interact with the kiosks by providing consent; thereafter, AI-powered cameras analyze their facial features. This process ensures compliance with age restrictions while streamlining the checkout experience. The collaboration with Yoti, a UK-based digital ID provider, is critical for the implementation of the Vynamic Smart Vision Age Verification solution.

The account manager at Diebold Nixdorf stated that such self-service solutions enhance speed and convenience in processing transactions involving age-restricted products. Furthermore, this technological advancement allows retail staff to focus on enhancing customer services rather than handling age verification manually.

The new automated kiosk follows the openings of two previous locations: one at Stuttgart Airport and another in Stuttgart city, indicating EDEKA Jaeger’s commitment to innovative, customer-centric shopping experiences.
