Infineon Launches New Fingerprint Sensor ICs for Automotive Applications

Infineon Technologies has introduced two new automotive fingerprint sensor ICs, the CYFP10020A00 and CYFP10020S00, that enhance biometric authentication in vehicles. These sensors offer temperature resilience, precise fingerprint detection, and customization options, making them suitable for in-vehicle personalization and external payment authentication. They are now available for purchase and will be displayed at OktoberTech™ 2024.

Infineon Technologies AG has unveiled two new automotive-qualified fingerprint sensor ICs, the CYFP10020A00 and CYFP10020S00, which offer advanced biometric capabilities for vehicle identification and authentication. These sensors enhance user experience by providing seamless and effective biometric performance compared to traditional methods like smartphone authentication or PIN entry. They are designed to integrate with Infineon’s TRAVEO T2G microcontroller family and comply with stringent AEC-Q100 automotive standards. The CYFP10020A00 sensor operates within a temperature range of -40 to +85 °C, while the CYFP10020S00 can function from -40 to +105 °C. Both sensors leverage precision capacitive technology to accurately capture the unique ridge and valley patterns of fingerprints, facilitating reliable identification and authentication not only for personalization within vehicles but also for payment processes, such as charging and parking. By teaming up with Precise Biometrics, Infineon ensures that these ICs utilize top-tier biometrics algorithms for exceptional performance. A notable feature of these sensors is their ability to detect finger touch-down and lift-off, and they can act like a mini trackpad for navigation purposes. With a sensing area of 8 x 8 mm housed in an 8.9 x 9.3 mm BGA package, and power supply options ranging from 1.8 to 5.5 V, the devices are customizable with various coatings and bezels to meet design preferences. Security is paramount; thus, biometric data is encrypted using an on-chip AES hardware block, communicating via SPI to the host microcontroller. The CYFP10020A00 and CYFP10020S00 are currently available for developers, alongside an evaluation kit (KIT-FPG1-T2G-B-E-2M) for testing and integration purposes. Interested parties will also have the chance to see these innovations firsthand at Infineon’s upcoming OktoberTech™ 2024 global technology forum in Silicon Valley on October 17.
