Infineon Technologies and Rheinmetall Dermalog Sensortec have launched innovative biometric sensors aimed at enhancing road safety by integrating advanced driver monitoring systems (DMS) in vehicles. Infineon introduced two fingerprint sensor integrated circuits (ICs)—the CYFP10020A00 and CYFP10020S00—that facilitate driver identity verification for personalizing vehicle settings and authenticating services such as parking and charging. These sensors utilize capacitive technology for fingerprint recognition and operate efficiently within a wide temperature range, enhancing their reliability in automotive applications. The sensors also integrate the Biomatch algorithm for improved accuracy in fingerprint authentication, ensuring secure data processing through AES encryption and SPI interface communication. Rheinmetall Dermalog Sensortec presented their face biometrics tool which focuses on monitoring driver behavior, including fatigue and distractions (like smartphone usage), by employing real-time data feedback. This system not only verifies driver identity but also enhances safety by providing alerts during risky driving behavior. In addition, the technology replaces traditional car keys with facial recognition and includes airbag suppression features, utilizing advanced cameras and radar to improve passenger safety.
